Chassis code decoder
Paste the chassis number. See the car, and what Ireland will charge on it.
A Japanese chassis number starts with the model code, and the model code names the car: its years, engine and fuel, where it was built, and from those the duty and the usual VRT position. 805 codes across 10 makers, each with the calculator pre-filled.
JZX100-0012345, GF-JZX100, ZVW50, a 17-character VIN, or words like “skyline gt-r”.
The table
Every code we know, by maker.
Years are first registrations in Japan. The CO2 position is the European twin’s figure where one exists; a dash means no EU figure and the 41% band unless a disclosure gives one. Values are starting points for a typical car of the year shown.

Questions
Codes, VINs and what they can and cannot tell you.
What is the difference between a chassis number and a VIN?
A Japanese domestic car carries a chassis number (車台番号) made of a model-code stem and a serial, such as JZX100-0012345, and the model code (型式) is printed on the sheet with an emissions prefix, such as GF-JZX100. A 17-character VIN is the international format; the first three characters name the maker and the country, and the model is not readable from it without the maker’s database.
Why does a code sometimes show two cars?
Makers do not coordinate stems. Honda’s GK3 is a Fit and Subaru’s GK3 is an Impreza G4. The decoder shows both and the paperwork’s maker decides.
Where do the CO2 positions and values come from?
The CO2 position is the European twin’s certified figure where one exists, WLTP or NEDC; the calculator uplifts NEDC as Revenue does. Where a car was never sold in Europe there is no figure and Revenue bands at 41% unless a disclosure gives one. The Irish values are the model pages’ and the 30-year timetable’s assumptions for a typical example of the stated year, and are a starting point to change, not a valuation.
Does the decoder know the year of my car?
No. A stem covers a run of years and the serial does not encode the date reliably, so the year is never guessed. It comes from the export certificate, and it decides the 30-year vintage rate, so it matters.
Years, engines and build countries are from the makers’ model histories and the import trade’s usage; a code can span trims the table does not list separately. The export certificate and the Statement on Origin are what customs and Revenue read.
